Long-time primary care champion Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) opened Day 2 of the conference with a firm commitment to primary care and a call for all attendees to continue advocating for high-quality primary care.
Sen. Whitehouse discussed his past support and commitment to primary care—from his efforts to double primary care investment in Rhode Island to championing the Pay PCP’s Act, which would introduce hybrid payments for primary care in Medicare.
Whitehouse also stressed the dangers of steep funding reductions for Medicaid, and asked attendees—especially those represented by conservative lawmakers—to call their representatives and urge them to vote against the reconciliation package.
