Panelists Karen Johnson (American Academy of Family Physicians), Dr. Michael Fine (Primary Care for All Americans), Beth Bortz (Virginia Center for Health Innovation) and Alicia Berkemeyer (Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Arkansas) explored how state and community-level efforts are strengthening primary care through innovative policies and programs.
With 22 states working to measure and increase primary care spending, attendees heard how these leaders are advancing strategies to improve health outcomes and scale effective models. Panelists shared goals, strategies, successes and challenges, including:
- Engaging Stakeholders: Building support among key partners and incorporating patient perspectives;
- Leveraging Data: Using timely, actionable data to track progress and inform decisions;
- Scaling Efforts: Deciding when to focus change efforts at the state or community level.
Participants learned how these local laboratories are driving primary care innovation — and how their lessons can inform broader efforts to expand and sustain primary care improvements nationwide.
